The Nyali Beach Hotel is the grand old hotel of the Mombasa coast. In 1931, the 1300 foot Nyali Bridge opened to link the port of Mombasa with the northern mainland. After World War II, the Kenyan government invited Harry and Eva Noon to build a hotel at the coast developing some of the prime land on Nyali Beach. Beginning with a rough clearing or Nyali, they dealt with every problem and setback, determined to built an elegant and comfortable Hotel.
In December 1946, the Nyali Beach Hotel opened to become the first of the Kenya’s Beach Hotels with a reputation for hospi6tality and excellence that endures to this day.
Your first impression is of cool white washed walls and tiled floors. There are ceiling fans, potted palms, pale marble and white wicker furniture. Light streams through Palladian windows to emphasise the blue-green colour of the cushions where hotel cats doze. A large brass samovar catches the light, and there are pots of tropical foliage. The atmosphere is easy; there is a sense of comfort and tradition. You have the feeling that you are waiting for Humphrey Bogart and Sidney Greenstreet to appear.
Although the hotel opened with only 57 rooms, today it can accommodate approximately 450 people and do it in style. Nyali Beach Hotel attracts honeymoon couples, families with children, and tourists from all over the world. There are many choices of accommodation, 26 acres of grounds and gardens, many varieties of Kenyan water sports and activities.
